With a little bit of a humorous start, I performed some songs here. Was a lot of fun! Miami Art Works – Miami, AZ.
Miami Art Works – October Performances
I’ve been playing at Miami Art Works’ Second Saturday events, Miami, AZ. Here are a couple clips.
Gorilla Performance #1
So even though it’s been over 3 years since I’ve performed anything in front of people, I am being *encouraged* to do so again. I suppose as a way into it (and for practice) I’ve always thought gorilla style performances, whether people show up or not, is kind of a cool thing, especially since I know a lot of *secret* places from my photography urban explorations (urbex). So here is a first performance I recorded. Also, it’s the first time I put this minimal gear together for use as a test. I’m really happy with the raw audio here! Three songs, one new! A big reason I’m doing this, even if it’s a somewhat complex and convoluted way into it, is that whenever I perform live, the response is always remarkably positive, much more so than just doing recording. I guess partially since I’m just doing what I do and while it doesn’t exactly fit into anything very neatly, it is *something* a little different.
New Album Release! Wherever the Compass Points
My 10th full length CD/Album has just been released! Check it out!
Digital sales are being handled by BandCamp. A direct link to the purchase/download page is here. The price is pay whatever you like! A few bucks in the “tip jar” will make my day, but if you download the album for free, maybe just let me know what you think–I love getting feedback!
Since so few people have ordered physical CDs of my last releases, I am only offering direct sales from the manufacturer and not jumping through the hoops to get them listed on Amazon. This allowed me to drop the price while increasing my share. I will still have physical disks for sale when in person, but if you want to order one, go here.
My talented son, Andrius, shot the cover photo.
The Streets Are the Same – A Quick OBS Video Capture
A lunchtime performance of a new song. I like that in the song I attribute so much insight and wisdom to Schrödinger’s cat, but in the video, my big lovable dumb fluff-ball is lying there totally oblivious to everything around him. Maybe he’s trying to decide whether he needs to keep sleeping or if he should get up and eat something.
Lyrics: The streets Are all the same When you're walking through time Going in and out As if anyone cared Or will even remember When you're gone When did we enter Why did we leave Who we were with But living Is just a facet Of Schrodinger's paradox Where we're all Just like the cat And the cat Is the only one That knows Where we've been Who we’ve loved How it felt And what it all meant To be alive Chords: E, A, D Copyright 2021 Mark Hahn, All Rights Reserved.
Gun To My Head
Just in time for your Halloween drug parties! I’d dance to this one! I kind of wish I would have taken a video of the fuzzed out cigar box slide guitar jam, but I was really just letting myself go so maybe it would have gotten in the way. I almost didn’t even record it. I think it mixed really well with the psychobilly slapback I’ve been doing with my Wildkat. My son suggested it had a Only Lovers Left Alive vibe to it. I laughed and said, “I am from Detroit!”
Lyrics: It ain’t like anyone Put a gun to my head To force me to make The mistakes I've made Do the things I've done Put a gun to my head So put a gun to my head But I still won't listen To what you want me to do 'cuz I've been hell bent On messing up My whole damned life Each step of the way So put a gun to my head Put a gun to my head And put an end this madness Or just love me For who I am And all the mistakes That have made me Who I am Or put a gun to my head Put a gun to my head Or just love me For who I am Key: C Copyright 2021 Mark Hahn, All Rights Reserved.
1st and Ft. Lowell – New Song
1st and Ft. Lowell is not a happy corner here in Tucson.
Lyrics: Somewhere By 1st and Ft. Lowell A silent man Beaten down Sits by a gray Abandoned building In the shade With an old plastic bottle Filled with water Letting the hours And the days slide by One high to the next Punctuated by Unbearable struggles Just to exist In the heat Of this godforsaken Desert But I really can’t say That this couldn’t Have been me In some Slightly different life. Had a butterfly Down in South America Flapped its tiny wings Just a little bit harder Who knows what I may have become Or what I might have done Chords: Em, Am, Dm Copyright 2021 Mark Hahn, All Rights Reserved.
Until There’s Nothing – A Cheerful Little Song About Death
When you come I don't know If it will be Like a Mack Truck Hitting me From behind Or a termite Slowly eating away The inside Of my brain Until there's nothing Left to feel Or understand Or if you'll come Like some Medieval Torture machine Making me cry out For that final relief But don't want Anything left unsaid Or a table Covered with regrets Written on little cards To remind me Of all the things I should have done While I've been around And had my chances Chords: D, A, E Copyright 2021 Mark Hahn, All Rights Reserved.
Wherever the Compass Points – New Song
I needed to hear a “peace, love, and hope” song last night, so I wrote this. In its simplicity, I think it’s pretty beautiful.
Lyrics: Wherever the compass points We'll go there together Though the times maybe tough And we all have our own Bags to carry Crosses to bear And personal struggles But no matter how lost It seems we are We'll be right together Finding peace No matter how many storms Are raging Around us [repeat] Chords: G, D, A Copyright 2021 Mark Hahn, All Rights Reserved.
Broken Chair – New Song (Using My New/Old Line 6 Pod 2.0)
Wrote this little song walking around downtown Chicago. It’s also the first time using my new/old Line 6 Pod 2.0 and a custom patch I put together around their Marshall JTM-45 model. Sounds pretty sweet to my ears. I like using simple dedicated hardware.
Lyrics: A broken chair In a dirty alley Gentle breezes With people sleeping On the sidewalk, or Begging for money Cicadas in the trees Clouds in the sky Up above With a bright sun On this Summer afternoon Somewhere In the heart of the city Chords: Cmaj7, Dm, Am, Em Copyright 2021 Mark Hahn, All Rights Reserved.
